“The Secret” and Getting Rich, according to Wallace Wattles

Wallace Wattles was one of the original U.S. writers who conveyed what we are now terming The Secret. Apparently, he failed miserably in his early life before learning the Secret and subsequently became a very wealthy man. Little is known of his life, but I really think that is not of import.

What is important is the text that he left us, The Science of Getting Rich. This is the text that the producer of The Secret read when she was down and out … it launched her inspiration to tell the world about The Secret. A summary of Wattles’ beliefs (which you probably will not fully understand until you read the full text, which I have linked to below) follows:

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing his thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.
